The Kappa Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi is honored to announce the completion of the 2nd annual Kappa Alpha Psi Freedom Walk which took place October 8, 2011. The walk started in New Richmond, Ohio and wrapped up at the Freedom Center in downtown Cincinnati. We were excited to get back out there to raise funds and awareness for such a worthy cause and a true pillar of the community. After enduring the 40-mile trek last fall, there was never any question about continuing the walk again this year.
As Polemarch (President) of the Kappa Delta chapter, I worked diligently to figure out a way to raise awareness for the event, while keeping the walk intact with the roots it was founded upon the previous year. Through the addition of several area undergraduate chapters (University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, and Wilberforce University) and the increased support from our local alumni chapter (Cincinnati Alumni Chapter), I believe we did just that. The Kappa Delta chapter was overjoyed with the opportunity to share with other brothers of this great fraternity, not only the feeling of giving back and helping a great cause, but the opportunity to educate themselves on the many injustices past and present that our people have endured.
Once we completed this year’s 23 mile walk for freedom, it was amazing to see the camaraderie among the brothers. Not only did we raise thousands of dollars for an amazing cause, but we learned so much about each other as leaders and men that a value could not be placed on the experience. This will continue to be an annual event sponsored by the men of the Kappa Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, but to gain notoriety we must increase the awareness and donations of the walk!
