Miami Alumni Brother Rodney Smith was appointed to the court by Florida Governor Rick Scott in July of 2012. “Judge Smith has a record of serving his community with integrity and respect,” Scott stated in the release. “I am confident his experiences as a lawyer and county judge have prepared him well to serve at the circuit level.” On September 28, 2012 the Honorable Brother Rodney Smith was sworn in as 11th District Circuit Court Judge Criminal Division at the Dade County Courthouse where several members of the Miami Alumni Chapter, clad in crimson Kappa blazers, were in attendance to support his Achievement.
Brother Smith received his Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) from Florida A &M University in 1996 and his J.D. degree (Cum Laude) from Michigan State University in 1999. Brother Smith was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2000 and has served as Assistant State Attorney, Senior Trial Attorney, Senior Assistant City Attorney of Miami Beach, and County Court Judge. He is married to Tangelia Smith and they have two children, Morgan and Bryce. A native Miamian, Brother Smith graduated from Miami Northwestern High School in 1992.
